Ranking Update – Part 2
Ranking Update
I started working on an ‘intense’ SEO campaign for a local business 2 weeks ago today. The client had good knowledge of SEO and had his site optimised pretty well but was struggling to get his site listed any higher in the search engines. In the screenshot below you can see the effect that our work had had on his rankings.
SEO Is Like a Dam – Open Flood Gates & Traffic Just Keeps Flowing
Another excerpt from Trond Lyngbø’s ‘How much does SEO cost?‘ post at search engine land.
Dams across massive rivers store water. Think about search engines like Google as huge dams that store your targeted visitors, and your listing on SERPs (search engine results pages) as holes in the dam. Punch enough of them, and you’ll be drowned in a flood of traffic!
That’s a great reason to start optimizing your website right now – and not take it in small steps, but go for a massive overhaul.
No matter what niche you are involved in, there are ‘evergreen’ search phrases with the potential to drive a large amount of traffic to your website for years. And this traffic is free! It will continue without any dent in your ongoing or proposed marketing budget.
But optimizing just one page on your website will only deliver one extra traffic stream. What if you opened the flood gates?
SEO Is Like An Iceberg, Mainly Hidden But With Massive Impact.
An excerpt from Trond Lyngbø’s – ‘How much does SEO cost?‘
It is said 90% of the mass of an iceberg is under the water, hidden from view. SEO is just the same.
While you might see only the attractive top ranking on Google as the impact of your SEO, there are a hundred unseen elements at play, all working in concert to deliver the collective impact of intelligent optimization.
Like icebergs, SEO has some serious risks to balance the great opportunities it creates. Boats, ships, cruisers and even ocean liners have run aground on hidden rocks under the sea. And countless businesses have paid a steep price for wrongly executed SEO campaigns.
Dynamic Keywords = Excellent CTR
Quick out-of-the-blue PPC post.
When using dynamic keywords in adwords, the standard format is: {keyword:Default_text}.
But here are a few others that you may be unaware of…
Example searched keyword: gary wells seo
{keyword} = gary wells seo
{Keyword} = Gary wells seo
{KeyWord} = Gary Wells Seo
SEO popularity growing and growing
We all know that SEO is getting tougher and tougher. Google is getting harder and harder to please. But this isn’t the only reason keeping SEOs up at night. More people than ever are searching for SEO advice, making it more competitive now than it has ever been.
If you take a look at the graph below from Google Trends, you can see that search volumes for the term ‘SEO’ have grown and grown since 2005. It is now at an all time high. Excluding the huge peak in July 2011.
Real-time Analytics
After a few very busy weeks, I finally had time to sit down and play with the (much talked about) new real-time reports from Google Analytics. I had been wondering, (but not holding out much hope) if Google would send me an early invite to test the new beta setup. To my surprise, they did. A quick look at the email details showed, that maybe those clever cloggs at Google are not so clever after all. That’s right, they forgot to make private the other recipients of the email… DOH! So not only do I have the access I had wished for, but also nearly 500 email addresses for like minded analytic nerds. Then again, so do 490+ plus others. I fully expect someone to sell that list and that my inbox will become flooded with junk… as per usual.
Anyway, back to beta. Let’s see some screen shots.

Google Custom Search
How to search social media outlets using Google’s new custom search engine CSE.

When searching for websites that are looking for guest bloggers, I tend to use the Google Blog Search, coupled with a term such as ‘looking for writers’ or ‘guest blog’. This has become a common search method for potential link builders and also a little tiring. Where else would a site owner suggest that they are looking for contributions to their site? SOCIAL MEDIA!
So what do we do? Spend even more time trying to trawl through the the latest social platforms? Nope, not any more. I recently stumpled upon Google’s ‘Custom Search’. This new search engine allows you to customise your results to only include the sites you wish to search. If you search in the box below, you will see results from social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.
Another cool little thing about this new search engine is that you can embed it on your site and link the results page to your adsense account. *Kerching*
Go on, give ‘looking for guest bloggers’ a try…
